Writing as a Path to Clarity and Healing

Have you ever had a moment where a question was swirling around in your mind, feeling heavy and unresolved? You decide to ask someone else for their input—maybe a friend, a colleague, or a loved one. But as you begin to voice the question out loud, something magical happens. Before the other person even has a chance to respond, you suddenly realize the answer yourself.
Why does this happen?
The Power of Externalizing Our Thoughts
When thoughts remain in our minds, they often feel tangled or overwhelming. The act of keeping them internal can make them seem more complicated than they truly are. But when we externalize those thoughts—whether through speaking or writing—we engage in a process of organizing them.
As you start to phrase the question aloud, your brain begins connecting dots. It’s almost as if the simple act of framing the question helps you see it from a new perspective.
This is because:
Articulation Creates Clarity: The process of turning thoughts into words forces your mind to structure them logically. In doing so, you may uncover connections or solutions you couldn’t see before.
Reflection Engages Your Intuition: Speaking aloud allows your intuition to surface. Often, the answers were already within you, but vocalizing your thoughts helps bring them to light.
Hearing Your Own Words: When you hear your question spoken out loud, it’s like shining a spotlight on it. What seemed cloudy in your mind suddenly becomes clear when it’s echoed back to your ears.

You are talking to you higher self
This is why journaling can be such a powerful tool. When you write down your thoughts, you’re essentially having a conversation with yourself. Journaling gives you the space to “ask the question” without needing another person. As you write, you’ll often find that the answers naturally emerge.
For example, imagine you’re struggling with a decision about a career move. In your journal, you might start by writing, “Should I take this new job opportunity?” As you continue writing, you may realize:
The aspects of the job that excite or scare you.
The underlying reasons for your hesitation.
The personal values that are guiding your decision.
By the time you finish journaling, you may find that the answer has become crystal clear—simply because you gave yourself the space to articulate the question.
How to talk to your self using a pen and journal
The next time you’re wrestling with a question, try this:
Write It Down: Open a journal or notebook and write the question at the top of the page.
Freewrite Your Thoughts: Without overthinking, jot down everything that comes to mind—your feelings, fears, hopes, and possibilities.
Pause and Reflect: As you write, notice if the answer begins to emerge naturally.
You might be surprised at how easily clarity comes when you give your thoughts a voice and allow your intuition to guide you as you move your pen.
How to cast manifestation spells with a pen and journal
In an earlier blog post, I shared how carrying a thought from moment to moment can lead to its manifestation. Whether it’s the craving for jollof rice that keeps popping into your mind or the vision of a healthier, happier version of yourself, the thoughts you nurture are the ones that shape your reality.
But how do you keep a thought alive long enough to see it manifest, especially in a world full of distractions? This is where journaling becomes a powerful ally.

Bringing your thoughts to life
When you write something down, you’re not just thinking about it—you’re anchoring it in reality. Each time you pick up your pen to revisit a thought, you’re giving it energy, intention, and momentum.
Think of journaling as planting seeds. Each entry is a little act of care for the thoughts and dreams you want to grow. When you consistently write about your goals, ideas, or even challenges, you’re keeping them front and center in your mind. Over time, this focus naturally influences your actions and decisions, steering you toward the life you want to create. For example:
If you’re dreaming of starting a new business, writing about it regularly helps you clarify your vision, explore ideas, and plan your next steps.
If you’re working on self-love, journaling about what you value in yourself or the affirmations you want to embody helps reinforce those beliefs.
Remember, journaling isn’t just about capturing your thoughts—it’s about keeping them alive, giving them space to grow, and infusing them with joy and intention. When you carry a thought through writing, it becomes more than an idea. It becomes a guiding force in your life, moving you closer to the reality you want to create.
So, grab your journal, nurture your dreams, and watch as your thoughts take shape in ways you never imagined.
With love and light,
Chika B.
